The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is Canada’s largest mental health and addiction teaching hospital and a world leading research centre in this field. Based in Toronto, Ontario, CAMH combines clinical care, research, education, policy development and health promotion to help transform the lives of people affected by mental illness and addiction. As a valued service and resource, the Library at CAMH supports the education, research, and clinical activities of the hospital and provides information services to healthcare professionals, clients and families, and communities across the province. The CAMH Library’s clientele includes hospital staff, both clinical and administrative, as well as researchers and a broad range of students. With a provincial mandate to educate the public of Ontario, the library also serves and supports patients, their families, members of the public, and professionals from across the province.
Position Description
As Manager, you will:
- Provide visionary and strategic leadership as well as administrative and operational oversight of the CAMH Library Services at all CAMH hospital campuses
- Lead and manage a team of highly skilled Information Specialists, Librarians and Technicians including all aspects of human resources and development
- Ensure quality information, services and resources are provided in a timely and efficient manner to enable decision-making, learning and evidence-based care
- Manage financial resources including developing and maintaining annual operating budgets and leadership of grants and revenue generating opportunities
- Oversee the development and delivery of instruction and consultation opportunities for CAMH staff in identifying and using information resources efficiently and comprehensively
- Develop collaborative and strategic partnerships including: across CAMH, the Toronto Academic Health Science Network (TAHSN), the University of Toronto, and community libraries
- Develop and manage relationships and agreements (e.g. Subscriptions) with publishers, vendors, aggregators and software suppliers
- Lead development, implementation and evaluation of strategic directions in alignment with corporate priorities
- Continuously evaluates and optimizes effectiveness of resources, collections and services, aligning efficiency with return on investment
- Regularly review current, best and next practices to inform directions and opportunities including monitoring trends and emerging digital technologies, business models and licensing practices
- Provide leadership in the physical relocation of CAMH library services from its current location at 33 Russell Street, to its new location at 1001 Queen Street west in Spring 2020
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Library Science or Information Studies from an ALA Accredited institution
- Five years of professional experience in a library with evidence of progressive responsibility, including experience at the management level
- Demonstrated knowledge of library operations and the delivery of high quality resources and services in a health care setting
- Demonstrated experience with electronic-resource licensing and negotiation
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate, plan, and implement library services in a digital environment
- Proven track record in financial planning/budget skills
- Proven leadership skills with demonstrated ability to inspire and motivate staff and colleagues as well as fostering a culture of learning and collaboration
- Knowledge of applicable legislation, such as Human Rights, Privacy and Copyright
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Senior administrative experience within a health care/academic environment required
- Demonstrated ability to foster innovation and progressive change
- Experience in developing and sustaining effective and collaborative professional working relationships and partnerships
- Demonstrated project management skills are an asset
