Simon Fraser University Library invites applications for a Liaison Librarian for Health and Life Sciences. This 80%, one-year position is based at WAC Bennett Library, Burnaby campus, and supports departments and programs at all three SFU campuses.

Reporting to the Head, Learning & Instructional Services, the incumbent will be responsible for providing library liaison services to SFU academic programs, including Health Sciences, Biological Sciences, Biomedical Physiology & Kinesiology, and Microbiology & Biochemistry, as well as participating in projects related to library services.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Act as liaison between the SFU Library and the faculty, staff and students in the Faculty of Health Sciences, the Department of Biological Sciences, the Department of Biomedical Physiology and Kinesiology, and the Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry.
  – Promote library services and collections and facilitate connections between the departments and the library.
  – In collaboration with Collections Management, develop, assess, and manage information resources in all formats to address the teaching and research needs of assigned liaison areas. This includes maintaining profiles for approval plans, reviewing subscriptions, selecting and de-accessioning material, budget oversight, and other collection activities.
  – Provide instruction and assistance to students and faculty in the use of information sources through instructional sessions, guides, and individual consultations.
• Provide in-person and online reference service in all disciplines as a member of a team serving students, faculty and community users in an active research environment.
• Work with other library staff on project teams and committees.
• Develop professional knowledge, skills, and disciplinary expertise on a continuing basis.
• Participate in professional organizations.
• Advance the values and goals outlined in the Library’s Strategic Plan.
• Incorporate SFU Library’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion into all planning and activities.
• Other duties as assigned.

Note that while the current assignment is for Health Sciences, Biological Sciences, Biomedical Physiology & Kinesiology, and Microbiology & Biochemistry, areas may be reassigned as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will have or will demonstrate:

• Master’s degree in Library or Information Studies from an ALA accredited program, or its equivalent;
• Broad knowledge of bibliographic tools and electronic resources, preferably those in the Health and/or Life Sciences;
• Collections knowledge and/or experience, ideally in an academic environment;
• Ability to provide research help in a complex and collaborative environment, preferably with experience in one or more of the liaison areas and/or working with researchers doing systematic reviews;
• Skill in planning and delivering instruction in one-on-one, classroom, and/or online environments;
• A proven user-centered focus;
• Knowledge of trends in academic library environments and post-secondary education;
• Ability to recognize, respect and work effectively with individuals and groups with diverse perspectives and backgrounds;
• Ability to develop, maintain and grow professional relationships;
• Excellent interpersonal and intercultural communication skills, both orally and written;
• Ability to learn, adapt and work in a collegial team environment;
• Commitment to continued professional development;
• Ability to advance equity, diversity, and inclusion and to serve the cause of social justice and Indigenous initiatives at the Library and SFU;
• Demonstrated commitment to the values outlined in the Library’s Strategic Plan.

This is a part-time (0.8fte) 1-year term Librarian position, beginning January 2, 2020.
