About the Library

Housed in the Riddell Library and Learning Centre, the University Library is an integral part of the MRU experience. The services, facilities, programming and expertise available in the Library support innovative teaching, learning, and scholarship across campus. The Library includes the Archives and Special Collections, and specialized and technology-enriched teaching and learning spaces, including information literacy classrooms, a Maker Studio, audio production rooms, and a range of visualization, simulation, and immersive spaces.  

About the Role

Reporting to the Associate Dean, Collections and Metadata (AD-CM), the Licensing and Access Specialist (LAS) provides leadership and coordination in relation to licensing and collections access. Managing the library licensing workflow, including reviewing and communicating license details, tracking paperwork and timelines, the LAS is a key member of the Library’s vendor negotiations team. As a source of licensing expertise, the LAS monitors and analyzes developments in library licensing and makes recommendations for changes in licensing policy and strategy. The LAS also coordinates the team providing access and technical support for the Library’s electronic resources. 

Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee electronic content licensing workflow. 
  • Monitor and analyze development in library licensing, including trends and changes at the consortial and library level.
  • Make recommendations for changes in licensing policy or strategic direction.
  • Create, adjust and document licensing related unit procedures and guidelines.
  • Resolve problems and provide support for inquiries related to interpretation of terms regarding use of and access to electronic resources. 
  • Communicate and document license terms and best practices (i.e. in Alma, Springshare).
  • Serve as a member of the collections negotiations team.
  • Analyse the performance of the Library’s discovery tool to identify and resolve systematic or platform level linking issues.
  • Use creativity and problem solving to identify and solve connection problems, including liaising internally and externally to find solutions. 
  • Plan, develop, and oversee electronic resources support service.
  • Establish proactive approaches to mitigate electronic access issues improving systems and workflows, including coordinating Library staff.
  • Responsible for promotion of new collections content, blog, AtoZ databases list, working with library communications, support staff training on new resources. 
  • Provide service on the Public Service Desk, chat and other duties. 
  • Assist with monitoring and responding to questions received via the Report a Problem service.

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of training and experience. 
  • Library specific education such as a Master of Library and Information Science (or equivalent) or Library Information Technology (or equivalent) diploma would be considered an asset. 
  • Minimum 3 – 5 years of related working experience.
  • Experience in an academic Library with preference for experience working in collection development.
  • Knowledge of the application of library licenses in an academic library environment.
  • Familiarity with electronic resource licensing workflows.
  • Ability to read, understand, communicate and apply complex licensing documentation.
  • Proven success in communicating with stakeholders, team members, patrons and content providers.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to balance multiple projects and set priorities in a time-sensitive environment.

Salary: $2,655.63 Semi-monthly
