The British Columbia Library Association (BCLA) leads the library community in advocacy, professional development, and support of intellectual freedom. BCLA ensures that all British Columbians have equitable access to information, ideas, and works of the imagination.
The BC Library Association (BCLA) is a non-profit, cross-sectorial member association with over 800 members, furthering the interests of libraries and representing individual and institutional members. BCLA offers opportunities for discussion, debate, and activities pertinent to libraries and the Association.
In addition, BCLA offers professional development opportunities for members and advocates for issues that support members, libraries, and the community. BCLA coordinates and leads opportunities for membership to expand knowledge and skills, and participates in formal liaisons with provincial, national, and international organizations to benefit the library sector.
The Executive Director provides inspired leadership and stewardship of BCLA’s resources to support the association’s 800 members and advance and advocate for the sector. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director embraces BCLA’s values while actively engaging the library and broader community and networks in alignment with BCLA’s mandate. Through a provincial lens, the Executive Director provides day to day oversight of strategic operations, leads the development of professional development, and builds BCLA’s capacity and membership. This is an exciting opportunity to articulate the role of libraries in society and inform policy, while providing value-added, responsive programs and services.
This is a challenging and dynamic opportunity for an innovative non-profit leader who is committed to driving and shaping the library sector. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational abilities with excellent interpersonal, financial, governance and strategic planning skills, as well as a commitment to member services and policy development. The candidate will have education, training, and/or professional development (including, but not limited to, library sciences, and/or non-profit leadership) with over five years of progressive leadership experience.
