DESCRIPTION:
The Library at UBC’s Okanagan campus invites applications from creative, enthusiastic, service-oriented librarians for a full-time ongoing position as the Southern Medical Program Librarian (SMP Librarian). The successful candidate will be a key member of UBC’s distributed medical program administered by the Faculty of Medicine and will have specific responsibility for library services associated with the Southern Medical Program located at the Okanagan campus of UBC.
Reporting jointly to the Associate Chief Librarian, Research & Administration, at the UBC Okanagan Library and the Regional Associate Dean, Interior, UBC Faculty of Medicine, the SMP Librarian provides leadership and vision in the creation and development of instructional programs, collections and services to the students and faculty involved in the Southern Medical Program. The SMP Librarian is active within the Faculty of Medicine, working closely with Undergraduate Librarians and designated individuals supporting the distributed program at UBC’s Vancouver campus, the University of Northern British Columbia, and the University of Victoria. The successful candidate will be a key collaborator at teaching hospitals and clinical sites within the Interior Health Authority. The Southern Medical Program Librarian prepares and monitors the annual budget for library collections and services for the Southern Medical Program. They will also provide input and direction to staff, where appropriate, who are performing functions related to the support of SMP faculty and students within the Library. Occasional weekend and evening work may be required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Graduate degree from an accredited program of library, or information science, or equivalent internationally accredited program;
• Demonstrated knowledge, competencies and/or experience in reference and instruction methodologies in an academic, hospital, or research setting, with an emphasis on evidence based practice;
• The ability to travel to various locations in British Columbia as required.

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT:
Please note that the work associated with this position is currently being performed remotely in response to COVID-19. In the longer-term, on campus work will resume.
This is a full-time continuing appointment with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2021. The start date is flexible depending on candidate requirements. If eligible and qualified, the successful applicant may be appointed with a confirmed appointment. Otherwise, there will be an initial three-year probationary appointment. Normally, such an appointment is reviewed following the second year of appointment, and a recommendation is made at that time to grant or not to grant a confirmed appointment. The successful candidate for this position will be a member of The University of British Columbia Faculty Association and the terms and conditions of appointment are governed by a collective agreement.
This position will be filled at an annual starting salary that is in accordance with the Collective Agreement between UBC and the UBC Faculty Association (http://www.hr.ubc.ca/faculty relations/collective-agreements/).
