The Bradford West Gwillimbury Public Library is a community-focused, single branch Library serving a diverse population of 35,500. The community includes both urban and rural areas with the majority of the population centered in the town of Bradford, which is located on the fringe of the GTA and adjacent to the Holland Marsh. Easily accessible from Highways 400, 27 and 11, Bradford is a growing community, reflected in the increasing demand for library services.
The Library has an opening for a part-time contract Borrower Services Assistant. Reporting to the Borrower and Technical Services Manager, this position is responsible for customer service at the Library, ensuring that the Library is a welcoming and safe environment for everyone. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Charging and discharging library materials
• Accepting payments for fines
• Registering library users
• Responding to customer inquiries and concerns
• Handling phone inquiries
• Support mission, vision and values of Bradford West Gwillimbury Public Library;
• Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, and the Corporate Health & Safety Policy and related procedures.
This position is expected to start June 21, 2021 and end December 17, 2021. Shifts and hours will vary, working up to 15 hours per week, and may include evenings and weekends. The rate of pay is $21.15 per hour.
Qualifications:
• High school diploma
• Experience with computer related software
• Excellent customer service skills
• Previous library experience is considered an asset
• First aid and CPR are considered an asset
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to foster cooperative working relationships and maintaining diplomacy and integrity

POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION SUMMARY
The Borrower Service Assistant ensures the efficient operation of all routines related to the circulation of materials to the public while maintaining good public relations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Using the Library automation system at the service desk, charges and discharges Library materials according to set policies and procedures;
Directs pages on an as needed base;
Clears book drop during public holiday closures;
Welcomes Library patrons, responds to inquiries, answers informational and directional questions; Handles telephone inquiries in a pleasant manner and directs questions to appropriate staff members;
Issues new membership cards or renews membership cards according to established policies; Runs debit and cash register tapes nightly to balance cash taken in;
Handles money for the following items;
collects fines, creates invoices and collects payments for lost and damaged items;
accepts registrations and collects fees for library programs;
collects payment for meeting room bookings;
accepts payment for photocopies, used and new book sales;
collects funds for Friends of the Library and other library related groups;
accurately issues and collects payments for recycling bins on behalf of the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury;
issues refunds for cancelled programs or returned and paid material.
Search and place holds on circulation materials;
Instructs and encourages customers in in the use of customer self -service technology. Trouble shoots difficulties with units;
Place holds for patrons from the Library’s Best Sellers List;
Print and send out overdue notices;
Print reports and search for material including holds, claimed return and missing items; Maintains the holds system and hold shelf;
Initiates ILLO requests for materials not in the collection;
Telephones patrons to notify them that requested material is in the Library;
Registers guest users on the internet booking system;
Issues WIFI Passwords;
If needed, assists in booking meeting rooms or use of AV technology in rooms;
Opens and secures the building for after-hours use;
Puts Library materials in order using the Dewey Decimal System on carts for Pages to shelve; Put aside new items to be put on display;
Activate RFID security on Library material as required.
Monitor and respond to alarms at RFID security gates;
Troubleshoot RFID enabled self-serve technology including check-in and check-out systems available to the public;
Maintain in house print material for borrowers including welcome pamphlets, program information etc.;
Direct maintenance and delivery personnel;
Issue keys when needed to visitors, sign for completion of regular maintenance within building; Repair slightly damaged material;
Maintain confidentiality under the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and other related and applicable legislation;
Support mission, vision and values of Bradford West Gwillimbury Public Library;
Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, and the Corporate Health & Safety Policy and related procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS
Successful completion of Grade 12;
Keyboarding skills;
A pleasant manner when dealing with the public;
Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
Ability to coach patrons effectively in the use of self-service technology;
Ability to handle cash accurately;
Satisfactory Police Record Check;
Previous customer service experience an asset;
Previous library experience an asset.
