ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the Provost and Vice-President Academic, and as part of the University’s senior leadership, the University Librarian (UL) leads the academic planning and development of the library and related academic learning services and supports. The UL defines priorities, policies, standards, and practices to maintain and promote distinct learner experiences and high-quality resources in support of academic programming and activities. The UL leads the Library’s alignment with the University’s strategic, academic, and operational plans, guides its visioning and strategic planning processes, and oversees its development of services, programs, collections, and facilities. This position is also acts as the University’s Copyright Officer and is accountable for copyright policy, procedures, and education.

The University Librarian will be an innovative strategic leader with a demonstrating understanding of academic libraries, and the evolving landscape of learning services, scholarship, and research. The successful candidate will have completed a Master’s in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited program; a minimum of five years’ experience as a librarian; and experience in leading teams and change initiatives, as well as managing and/or supervising others. Doctoral level education is preferred (earned or in progress) as well as post-secondary teaching experience.
