Position description
Mount Allison University Libraries and Archives invites applications from qualified candidates for the position of Data and Digital Services Librarian. This is a half-time 6-month sabbatical replacement appointment to begin January 1, 2022 and end June 30, 2022.
Duties
Reporting to the interim University Librarian, the Data and Digital Services Librarian manages and promotes the institutional repository, supports data and digital literacy teaching across all disciplines, and answers government data and science reference questions. The Data and Digital Services Librarian serves as the liaison, across all subjects and disciplines, for data and digital services, working actively with faculty and students to understand and support their needs in these areas. The Data and Digital Services Librarian provides access to and support for restricted Statistics Canada data as Mount Allison’s representative for the Data Liberation Initiative. As a member of Library Council, the Data and Digital Services Librarian will contribute to the R. P. Bell Library renovation planning discussions. The successful candidate may also be assigned responsibilities in other areas befitting the Libraries’ priorities and dependent on the successful candidate’s strengths and expertise.
Qualifications/skills
Qualifications for this position include an MLIS or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited library school and an undergraduate or graduate degree in science. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated abilities and recent experience with institutional repositories, teaching, research data management, and reference in an academic environment. Knowledge of Islandora and Zotero are assets. The successful candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills; a strong public service centred philosophy; and a keen interest in digital literacy.
This position is represented by the Mount Allison Faculty Association and includes opportunities for participation and involvement in scholarship, teaching and service. The appointment will be made at the rank of Assistant Librarian. Salary will be within the established range and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
