LIBRARIAN FOR INTERACTIVE ARTS & TECHNOLOGY AND PUBLISHING (LIMITED TERM)
Simon Fraser University Library invites applications for a Librarian for Interactive Arts & Technology and Publishing. Reporting to the Head, Fraser Library, this 80%, term position will be based at Fraser Library, Surrey campus and will support the School of Interactive Arts & Technology (SIAT) at the Surrey campus and the Publishing program at the Vancouver campus.
The incumbent will act as a liaison between SFU Library and the faculty, staff and students in SIAT and Publishing, providing research, instruction, and collections support. The Librarian for Interactive Arts & Technology and Publishing will promote library services and advocate for resources and services relevant to the departments. This position will be attractive to an individual with excellent communication and collaborative skills and who has a strong commitment to learner and user-centered approaches.

ASSIGNMENT
- Advance the values and goals outlined in the Library’s Strategic Plan;
- Advance SFU’s Academic Plan through library services and programming;
- Incorporate SFU Library’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion into all planning and activities;
- Act as liaison between the SFU Library and the faculty, staff, and students in SIAT and Publishing at the Surrey and Vancouver campuses:
- Provide subject-specific research services for faculty and students, including strategic curriculum-integrated instruction and research consultations;
- Engage in strategic collection development and assessment on an ongoing basis;
- Proactively promote, plan, and advocate for resources and services relevant to the departments;
- Collegially contribute to the library, the university, and the profession;
- Develop professional knowledge, skills, and disciplinary expertise on a continuing basis;
- Other librarian duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- Master’s degree in Library or Information Studies from an ALA accredited program, or its equivalent;
- Familiarity with trends in academic publishing and knowledge of collections practices;
- Experience with learner-centred approaches to instruction and pedagogical assessment;
- Understanding of how information is located, critically evaluated, and assimilated for the creation of new knowledge and the ability to apply this in the provision of research and learning support;
- Strong evidence of proactive approaches to relationship building;
- Ability to work in a complex environment by establishing priorities and maintaining a balance between short and long-term goals;
- Experience with managing and prioritizing projects with multiple stakeholders;
- Demonstrated ability to assist students and faculty from a variety of disciplines in a busy research environment;
- Ability to recognize, respect and work effectively with individuals and groups with diverse perspectives and backgrounds;
- Excellent interpersonal and intercultural communication skills, both orally and written.
Desired:
- Degree in a related discipline;
- Reference and collections experience within a related discipline.
TERMS OF APPOINTMENT
This is a part time (.8 FTE) Librarian position, with an anticipated start date in early February 2022 and end date of August 11, 2023.
