JOB DESCRIPTION:
Vancouver Island Regional Library is looking for a Information Technician for a Permanent Full-Time opportunity at our Sooke Branch.
The Information Technician provides reader’s advisory and reference services to customers of all ages by working directly with the public in the assigned work location and providing back-up reader’s advisory and reference services to smaller branches in the Zone. The Information Technician also assists the Library manager to maintain the branch collection, prepare displays and train public and staff in use of eResources and is a participating member of the branch team.
All duties and responsibilities are directly aligned with the Mission, Vision and Values and Strategic Plan of the Vancouver Island Regional Library.
Representative Duties:
- Works on the Information Desk on a regularly scheduled basis, providing reader’s advisory and reference services to customers of all ages.
- Under the direction of the Library Manager, adjusts and weeds the branch collection.
- Prepares displays on specific topics.
- Assists and instructs customers on the use of library resources, including eResources and self-service technology.
- Assists in preparing and presenting branch programming.
- Is able to carry out all representative duties as noted on the Library Assistant job description.
- Other related duties as required.
Required Education & Experience:
- Two year Library Technician Diploma.
- Demonstrated reader’s advisory, reference and eResource skills.
- Strong computer skills, including Internet.
- Effective trouble shooting skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability and willingness to work with the public – all ages.
- Valid BC driver’s license.
- Satisfactory completion of a Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector.
Schedules are subject to change based on business needs and the demands required of any position.
You may be required to have a valid BC Driver’s License and will be required to satisfactorily complete a Criminal Record Check (Working with Children & Vulnerable Adults).
Vancouver Island Regional Library has also introduced a compulsory COVID-19 Vaccination Operational Policy. All new employees will be required to provide proof of their vaccination status to Human Resources prior to accepting employment.
