Position description
Mount Allison University Libraries and Archives invites applications from qualified candidates for the position of Public Services Librarian. This is a full-time, twelve-month, sabbatical replacement position, to begin on July 1, 2022 and end June 30, 2023.
Duties
As a member of the Public Services team, the incumbent will provide reference and research assistance; lead information literacy sessions; develop and manage the collections for Canadian Studies, History, Indigenous Studies, and Special Collections; and develop reference and teaching materials for the web site. As a member of Library Council, the Public Services librarian will contribute to the R.P. Bell Library renovation planning. The successful candidate may also be assigned responsibilities in other areas befitting the Libraries’ priorities and dependent on the successful candidate’s strengths and expertise. Shift duties for reference service include evenings and weekends.
Qualifications and requirements
Qualifications for this position include an MLIS or equivalent from an ALA-accredited library school. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated abilities and recent experience in reference, information literacy teaching, collection development, and special collections, in an academic library. The successful candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills, a strong public-service-centred philosophy, and a keen interest in providing library and information services in a collegial environment. Preference will be given to candidates with a second graduate degree or a background in the Arts and/or Social Sciences, particularly in one of the subjects listed above.
This position is represented by the Mount Allison Faculty Association and includes opportunities for participation and involvement in scholarship, teaching, and service. The appointment will be made at the rank of Assistant Librarian. Salary will be within the established range and commensurate with qualifications and experience. In 2022-2023, the base salary for Assistant Librarian will be $79,350.
