Community Engagement Associate – Ajax Public Library

Position Summary 

The Ajax Public Library is currently recruiting three (3) candidates for the position of Community Engagement Associate (Part-Time). Under the direct supervision of the Coordinator of Community Engagement, within a certified ISO environment, and in a manner that is consistent with Ajax Public Library’s overall visions and goals, the Community Engagement Associate (CEA) has a strong commitment to service excellence, understands service objectives, recognizes diverse customer needs, and develops and delivers programs and outreach activities, within the scope of the approved Programming and Community Engagement Plan. The CEA represents the Library on various internal and external committees, and also assists with the evaluation of Library programs and special events. **Proof of Covid vaccination is required.** 

Typical Duties & Responsibilities 

1. Within the scope of the annual Programming and Community Engagement Plan, develops and executes a variety of programs and activities to encourage the use of the library’s services, including but not limited to: children’s, teen’s, and adult programs, special events, reading clubs, and school and community outreach. 

2. Conducts outreach to community-based organizations, schools, daycare centres, and community groups to promote the Library’s services, collections, programs and resources.

3. At outreach events, performs library card registration and checks out library materials.

4. Represents the Library on internal and external committees. 

5. Collects evaluation data of current programs. Supports the marketing of programs by providing information for publicity. 

6. Provides quality customer experience, responds to customer concerns and complaints and ensures that the Library is always profiled in a positive manner. 

7. Prepares reports and statistics as required. 

8. Maintains awareness of current and evolving public experience, through formal and informal education, offers excellent and proactive customer service, and builds community connections.

9. Other library related duties as assigned. 

Compensation  

$24.96-$29.37/hour (CUPE Grade 6) 

Working Conditions 

1. May work up to 48 hours per two-week period, which includes evenings and weekends. 

2. Physical demands include moving book trucks and boxes of materials, bending and stretching, and the ability to lift up to 40 lbs. The ability to work outdoors is required.

Qualifications and Skills 

1. Completed college diploma in a field relevant to current Library service delivery preferences. 

2. Minimum six months relevant experience working in a programming delivery and community engagement environment. 

3. Strong technical and STEAM-related skills with an aptitude for computer equipment, applications, personal electronic and other popular communication media. 

4. Ability to work effectively with customers of all ages and backgrounds; recognizing the needs of customers from a wide variety of cultural, economic, social and educational backgrounds.

5. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication, and conflict resolution skills.

6. Demonstrated ability to balance priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. 

7. Ability to travel, attend meetings and outreach events outside of the library facility, as needed.
