Role Summary

We are seeking an intellectually curious and enthusiastic Reference Librarian who will provide research and current awareness services. She/he/they will report to the Library Team Lead.

As such, it is essential for applicants to be dedicated to client service and have a degree of comfort operating in a fast-paced environment. Candidates must be self-motivated, responsive, and have excellent attention to detail.

This is a full-time position Monday to Friday with some flexibility offered regarding hours of work. We are currently operating a hybrid work model and Business Services firm members are required to work from the office at least two (2) days per week.

Key Responsibilities

·        Handle sophisticated legal research and reference requests in a timely manner

·        Manage the provision of current awareness services, which includes monitoring practice area developments and preparing weekly alerts, sending out daily news alerts and e-journals as well as evaluating usage of resources and recommending new tools

·        Design and deliver engaging legal research and resources training and orientation programs for law students and lawyers

·        Set up passwords and troubleshoot any issues with the password management system

·        Perform other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

·        Master’s degree in Library Science / Information Studies.

·        Minimum of two years experience providing reference services at a law library.

·        Experience using MS Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams).

·        Ease with learning new technology and expert at using the major legal and business online databases.

·        Ability to recite the names of the leading Canadian texts in various legal subject areas.

·        Intellectually curious critical thinker who is analytical about both the particular work you do as well as the nature of the services you provide.

·        Ability to work independently, yet collaboratively, and proactively engage with all stakeholders / team members.

·        Excellent written and verbal communication skills and not fearful of picking up the phone.
