Position Description

Do you enjoy working with schools, childcare providers, community organizations and more, and looking for new and innovative ways to connect them to literacy and the Library? As a member of our collaborative, cross-functional team, you are an enthusiastic, highly-motivated people person who shares our commitment to excellence. You are passionate about working with children 0-12 and their families, and excited to lead a team and deliver high-quality programming and events focused on the principles of Every Child Ready to Read, the needs of the community, and developmentally appropriate best practices in programming and education. As the lead for Children’s Services, you provide oversight of the services to children the Library provides, which includes outreach to local schools and community organizations, and planning for participation in community events. 

You will have training and experience in collection development and work alongside a team of selectors to manage the children’s collections, both physical and digital. You will also mentor and guide staff to ensure appropriate readers’ advisory and public access to the children’s collection, which includes overseeing curated book bags and the selection of databases and electronic resources.

Our ideal candidate has a Masters of Library and Information Science (MLIS) or equivalent university degree and experience in Libraries and/or programming with children and families. You will also have a minimum of four years of Library programming experience; excellent computer skills, with a variety of experience facilitating successful virtual meetings on platforms including Google Meet and Zoom; and knowledge of basic video creation and editing software. Significant knowledge of Library programming trends including Makerspace equipment, robotics, coding and educational technologies is an asset. 

While being a creative, ideas-person, your superior leadership and organizational skills ensure you are capable of balancing projects with multiple priorities involving various working groups and partners in a dynamic, fast-paced, customer-focused environment. Your commitment to the position requires flexibility to work both remotely and at all branches of the library system, including evenings and weekends. A police records check with Vulnerable Sector screen, valid Class G driver’s license, and access to reliable transportation is required. 

Salary Range: $37.62 – $44.26 per hour
