Teaching and Learning Librarian (Term)
Simon Fraser University Library invites applications for a Teaching and Learning Librarian. This 80% term position through September 1st 2023 is based in Learning and Instructional Services at the W.A.C. Bennett Library, Burnaby campus, and supports instruction related initiatives across all library locations.
Reporting to the Head of Learning and Instructional Services, the incumbent will provide leadership for information literacy and open education within the library. The Teaching and Learning librarian will work as a member of a team to support general information literacy instruction at the library. They will also lead on initiatives related to open education on campus. The incumbent will move forward strategic initiatives related to the Library’s Instruction Plan and will be guided by the Library’s Strategic Plan.

ASSIGNMENT
- Provide leadership and move forward strategic library initiatives related to information literacy and open education
- Advise on trends and best practices in the area of information literacy instruction and open education within the library
- Work in collaboration with library and university partners to engage in equity, inclusion, and decolonial practices in all areas of the Teaching and Learning portfolio
- Liaise with teaching focused campus units, collaborate on programming, and participate on related committees
- Support an instructional community of practice within the library and engage with broader communities of practice in higher education related to information literacy and open education
- Contribute to training and planning for and support the delivery of instruction
- Maintain current understanding of educational technologies and employ relevant technologies to enhance online and face-to-face instruction, including developing online learning content in Canvas
- Collaborate with partners within the library and at SFU to work on moving forward specific initiatives related to instruction and open education
- Advance the values and goals outlined in the Library’s Strategic Plan.
QUALIFICATIONS
A Master’s degree in Library and Information Studies from an ALA accredited program, or its equivalent, is a required qualification for this position. Additional qualifications are:
- Knowledge of best practices and trends in information literacy;
- Experience with planning and delivering instruction, with a focus on learner-centered pedagogy and reflective teaching practices;
- Knowledge of equitable, inclusive, and accessible pedagogies as well as knowledge of decolonial practices in instruction;
- Understanding of open education, including intersections with trends and issues in academic publishing and scholarly communication;
- Familiarity with open pedagogy, and with principles and best practices regarding the adoption, adaptation and creation of open educational resources (OER) in higher education;
- Understanding of how information is situated, critically evaluated, and used for the creation of new knowledge;
- Ability to clearly articulate and contextualize the information ecosystem in the provision of research and learning support;
- Evidence of proactive approaches to collaboration and relationship building with colleagues and community;
- Strong competence in recognizing, respecting and working effectively with individuals and groups with diverse perspectives and backgrounds;
- Exceptional interpersonal and communications skills (oral and written). These skills include but are not limited to strong listening skills, valuing and respecting diverse perspectives, a collaborative approach, and the ability and willingness to ask questions;
- Experience with managing and prioritizing projects with multiple stakeholders;
- Demonstrated ability to get up to speed quickly with different educational platforms and/or technologies to support flexible, online learning;
- Commitment to continued professional development
TERMS OF APPOINTMENT
This is a part time (0.8 FTE) term Librarian position, with an anticipated start date of August 31st, 2022 and an end date of Sept 1st, 2023.
