Job Description:

McMaster University Library seeks an innovative, self-directed, technologically agile and student-centred librarian to support its teaching and learning initiatives for a 12-month contractually limited appointment.  The individual will help design, deliver and promote a wide variety of information literacy programs, services and resources to enhance student academic success. 

The Learning Support Librarian will support the University Library’s teaching and learning initiatives by working with other Learning Support Librarians to design, deliver and promote a wide variety of information literacy programs, services and resources to enhance student academic success. This position will work across a wide variety of disciplines in close collaboration with other colleagues involved in the teaching and learning programs. 

The successful candidate will:

  • Collaborate with the other Learning Support Librarians, faculty and instructors to create and deliver information literacy sessions and workshops to enhance student academic success.  The program consists of a variety of face-to-face, online and blended sessions.
  • Work with the learning support librarians to develop and implement a strategy to scaffold learning and skill development, building on first-year instruction to prepare students for upper-year research.
  • Work with instructors to connect research skills development and information literacy instruction between and across courses and disciplines.
  • Incorporate sound pedagogical practices into all learning programs, services or resources.
  • Assist with the development and integration of multimedia library content into new online courses.  Assist with embedding of content into D2L (course management system).
  • Create innovative instructional materials to support faculty and student learning needs.
  • Stay current with new and emerging technologies in teaching and learning, and seek out opportunities to reflect on, share, and apply these within the Learning Support department and the instruction program.
  • Assist with the assessment of learning programs, services and resources.
  • Deliver research consultations as required.
  • Chair or serve as a member on library and university committees, task forces and projects aligned with position responsibilities. 

This is a full time, contractually limited appointment reporting to the Associate University Librarian, Services. Normally scheduled weekly hours will be Monday – Friday 9:00am – 5:00pm (35 hours/week).

Qualifications:

The successful candidate must have the following:

  • A Master’s degree in Library Science, Information Science, or Archival Studies from an ALA-accredited program or its equivalent.
  • 2 years of relevant experience. 

Compensation:

It is anticipated that the appointment will be made at the rank of Librarian 1 or 2, with an annual salary range of $60,436.38 – $87,078.16 per year, or $65,930.78 – $97,266.03 per year depending on experience and rank. This position is included in the McMaster University Academic Librarians’ Association bargaining unit. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
