Position Description:
The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is Canada’s largest mental health and addiction teaching hospital and a world leading research centre in this field. As a valued service and resource, the Library at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health supports the education, research, and clinical activities of CAMH and provides information services to healthcare professionals, patients, families, and communities across the province. The CAMH Library’s clientele includes hospital staff, both clinical and administrative, as well as researchers and a broad range of students. With our provincial mandate, the library also serves and supports patients, their families, members of the public, and professionals from across the province.
We are currently seeking a part-time, permanent Library Assistant to join our team. The successful candidate will be an advocate for mental health with a commitment to evidence-based practice and public service.
Reporting to the Manager, Library & Archives, the Library Assistant will work as part of a team delivering information services and supporting evidence-based practice in patient care, health education, and clinical and health systems research. The Library Technician will be an advocate for mental health and:
- Act as the first point of contact for patrons in person, by phone, or by email
- Respond to information requests promptly and accurately and make appropriate referrals to CAMH librarians or to other departments and programs as required
- Locate and deliver print or electronic materials to internal and external clients, including via interlibrary loan with DOCLINE and AMICUS
- Participate in the selection, purchase, and evaluation of library resources
- Conduct original and copied cataloguing of library materials
- Circulate print and AV materials; Organize and shelve library material
- Collect, track and report statistics on usage of library resources and services
- Contribute to marketing and promotion initiatives for the library, its services, and the collection
- Provide various administrative and office support functions
- Propose and/or take the lead on special projects
- Take an active role in the activities of professional associations and consortia

Qualifications:
- Accredited 2-year Library Technician diploma
- At least one year of library experience in a public-facing role is required, preferably in a health sciences setting
- Proven sensitivity, skills and experience working with a diverse workforce and communities is essential
- Knowledge of electronic tools and integrated library systems
- Aptitude for or interest in cataloguing library materials, including copy cataloguing
- Fluency with computer applications and web technologies
- Excellent analytical and organization skills to effectively deal with competing priorities and deadlines
- The ability for self-directed learning/working, as well as flexibility and teamwork
- Demonstrated interpersonal, communication (oral/written) sills and creative problem-solving abilities
- Familiarity with searching biomedical databases would be considered an asset
- Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language would be considered an asset

Salary Range: $26.57 – $32.75 per hour
