The MSVU Library & Archives is dedicated to supporting the University’s high-quality teaching, learning, and research goals and invites applications for a full-time, probationary librarian appointment commencing on 1 July 2023. Responsibilities include serving as the Collections Librarian and a member of the library’s research help team. Liaison work with academic departments is also required. Reporting to the University Librarian, the successful candidate ensures the continuation of a high level of service in all areas of responsibility and is the university representative, and primary contact with, consortia, publishers, vendors, etc. for collections management, development, and services. Core functions of this position include management of the print and digital library collection, acquisitions, collections analysis, license review (databases, serials, streaming services), deselection/weeding, gifts and donations, collection shifts, and oversight of the physical library collection. The incumbent monitors acquisitions budgets and tracks spending and analytics with special attention paid to ebooks, database and serial subscriptions, title reconciliations, and renewals. This includes frequent consultation with staff and members of CRKN, CAAL-CBPA, and Novanet. The Collections Librarian collaborates with the Archivist on special collections and the Systems Librarian on digital access.

The successful candidate is a member of several MSVU Library & Archives collectives including the library and archives management and research help services teams. Librarians at MSVU are full members of the Faculty Association and have the option to teach as part of their workload one half-unit per year of the credit course LIBR 2100: Library Research. Other responsibilities include scholarly and/or professional activity with formal and informal dissemination of findings required for reappointment and promotion. There is also the expectation and opportunity to pursue other internal and external collegial service.

The following qualifications are required of the position:
• A Master of Library and Information Science or equivalent.
• Experience with collection development and assessment.
• Knowledge of collections trends, budget models, the publishing environment, and impacts on collection strategies and directions in the academic library.
• Experience in advancing the development of diverse and inclusive collections that consider Indigenous and other groups where equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility needs addressing.
• Experience providing research (reference) help services, preferably in an academic library environment.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to provide leadership in library collections.
• Strong technological and analytical skills, and a willingness to explore and implement innovative technologies, standards, and practices to enhance collections management.
• A commitment to academic librarianship through scholarly and/or professional activity, and service.

Experience in the following areas will be considered an asset:
• Previous collection development and management experience in an academic environment.
• Budgeting and collection data analytics.
• Ex LIBRIS Alma Library Service Provider (Alma, Primo) and proficiency with Excel and other Microsoft Office products.
• Credit or non-credit teaching or library instruction.
• Supervision of staff and/or students.
