Job Summary: Reporting to the Librarian III, InfoAction, the incumbent is responsible for the ongoing operations of the Skilled Immigrant InfoCentre (SIIC). The SIIC is funded through the Government of Canada’s Citizen and Immigration Department (CIC) and exists to provide employment information to newcomers to Canada. The main duties of the position are to coordinate and carry out responsibilities relating to the Skilled Immigrant InfoCentre as defined by the CIC Contribution Agreement (CA).
The incumbent participates in the development and implementation of project plans for the service, including: the web enhancement plan; the resource development plan; and the marketing strategy. The co-ordinator is responsible for co-ordinating data collection in accordance with policies outlined in the CA in order to report on outputs, outcomes, service usage data and performance measures.
The co-ordinator participates in public relations, liaison and outreach activities to support the work of the Skilled Immigrant InfoCentre, ensuring awareness of the service in the newcomer community. The co-ordinator provides information and referral services to the public, community organizations and staff. The co-ordinator acts as a trainer and support for staff at VPL to develop skills in using the tools and resources available through the SIIC. The incumbent is aware of the landscape of newcomer employment needs in Greater Vancouver and is able to tailor services that target their specific needs. Working with the Librarian III, InfoAction, the SIIC co-ordinator oversees and develops labour market resources and training tools for the Skilled Immigrant InfoCentre.
Job Requirements:
Education/Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited library school.
- Completion of supervisory courses.
Experience:
- Demonstrated supervisory and/or leadership experience. Experience in the provision of library services including programming, information services, working with the community and collection management.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Experience in project management and the ability to organize, prioritize work and manage time.
- Strong interpersonal skills evidenced by the ability to work cooperatively and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, direct reports, stakeholders across the organization and external partners.
- Possess a positive attitude and the ability to be flexible and future-oriented in a dynamic team environment.
- Ability to lead, coach and develop a staff team; excellent team-building and leadership skills.
- Thorough knowledge of current trends and industry best practices in areas of responsibility.
- Thorough understanding of library services, collections, technologies and resources.
- Thorough understanding of the organization, its structure and roles, and strategic priorities.
- Strong commitment to serving clients; open, pragmatic and responsive to clients and community.
- Innovative and flexible in a rapidly changing library environment with the ability to assist staff to participate in and be open to change.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as analytical and problem solving skills.
- Ability to actively promote the service area to the community and agencies and work with the community to identify and meet community needs and expectations.

Employment Type: Temporary Full-Time until June 30, 2024
Salary: $40.29 to $47.57 per hour
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday 8:30am – 5:00pm with evenings and weekends as needed for events.
