About Our Opportunity

The Collections Access Lead provides leadership to the Collections Access Team at Nova Scotia Provincial Library.  The Team supports the collaborative development, configuration, and ongoing maintenance of the digital systems used by the Same Page library consortium.

The Lead is the subject matter expert for the Integrated Library System (ILS) for the Same Page consortium.  The Lead is responsible for managing the development and optimal configuration of the ILS and related systems in collaboration with participating library regions and is the key point of contact.  The Lead also provides support for the configuration of the discovery layer and the development of the digital media collection.

Primary Accountabilities

  • Manages the development and system configuration of the ILS as well as the resources required to ensure its ongoing functionality, usability, and reliability, including coordinating with the vendor. 
  • Provides expertise and guidance in the development of the system to maximize system functionality
  • Builds strong working relationships with library stakeholders, facilitates decision-making and builds consensus amongst stakeholders to ensure system consistency and optimal performance
  • Identifies and makes recommendations on new features and functionality
  • Leads troubleshooting and problem resolution and ensures both are communicated to stakeholders in a timely manner.
  • Leads and/or manages system upgrades, modifications, and ongoing work (including year-end activities)
  • Project manages the implementation of new features and functionality
  • Develops and maintains sufficient knowledge of the discovery layer software to support and maintain the system, when required.
  • Develops and maintains sufficient knowledge of the digital media lending software to support and maintain the system, when required.

Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role you have a Bachelor’s degree, a post-graduate degree in Library Science, and 5 years of professional library experience.

As the ideal candidate, you have:

  • Demonstrated experience managing integrated library systems. SirsiDynix Symphony or Unicorn is preferred.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • Experience developing solutions to complex technical problems/issues.
  • The ability to facilitate decision-making between library consortium partners.
  • The ability to communicate, negotiate effectively, and work collaboratively with vendor and library staff, individually and in group situations.
  • Work well as part of a team and have experience leading teams.
  • A thorough understanding of library operations.

  • Are analytical with excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. 
  • Effectively organise work, develop effective work processes and assess work priorities. 
  • Are accurate, meticulous, and vigilant in completing your work.
  • Are self-directed with the ability to work independently or in a team environment.  
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact effectively and work productively and collaboratively with a variety of individuals and groups in a complex and rapidly changing environment. 
  • Are able to quickly learn new technologies and stay current with technological developments in libraries. 
  • Are able to demonstrate and understand the value of equity, diversity and inclusion.

Pay Grade:  PR 13 

Salary Range:  $2,543.38 – $3,091.70 Bi-Weekly
