The Bradford West Gwillimbury Public Library is a community-focused, single-branch Library serving a diverse population of 42,800. The community includes urban and rural areas with most of the population centered in town, which is on the edge of the GTA and adjacent to the Holland Marsh. Easily accessible from Highways 400, 27 and 11, Bradford is a growing community with an increasing demand for library services.
The Library has an opening for a full-time Emerging Technologies Specialist. Reporting to the Manager of Public Services, the role is responsible for the planning and delivery of programming and services for the creative lab.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for daily operation of creation services, including facilitating access, troubleshooting and maintenance of resources and technologies.
- Research, implement, and manage new technologies to enhance the creative lab.
- Coordinate the planning and delivery of technology and “creative Lab” programs and services for all ages including evaluating program success and providing recommendations on improvements.
- Initiate and respond to opportunities to promote creation services in the community.
- Research creative making trends and emerging technologies, sharing relevant developments with colleagues. Recommends and incorporates new ideas when able.
- Contribute to the design and development of the Library’s website.
- Undertake special projects as assigned targeted at enhancing the creative Lab.
Key Competencies and Qualifications
- Degree in technology or multimedia program with emphasis placed on specialized courses in computer programming and “maker technology”, digital literacy, or the creative arts, or equivalent.
- Minimum of three (3) years of related experience in a maker space (or equivalent) or in a teaching environment.
- Experience with STEAM programming, related digital media technologies such as vector design, 3D printing, sound and video recording, digital photography, and maker technologies such as robotics, circuitry, graphic design, vinyl cutters, laser cutters, Adobe creative Suite or similar design software and coding.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to foster cooperative working relationships and maintain diplomacy and integrity.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to balance priorities and meet deadlines.
- Ability to promote a culture of inclusiveness and work with a diverse population of employees, participants, agencies, and the public.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as part of a regular schedule.
- Ability to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check upon hire.
The position offers an hourly rate of $33.42 (CUPE Local 905.29 rate) based on a 35-hour workweek plus a competitive benefit package. This position includes days, evenings, and weekend shifts as part of a regular schedule.
