Scholarly Publishing Librarian (Full-time, 6 Month Limited Term)

The MSVU Library & Archives invites applications for a limited term librarian at the rank of Librarian I from 5 January 2026 to 30 June 2026. Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Agreement of the MSVU Faculty Association.

Description

Reporting to the University Librarian, the successful candidate will be an advocate for open access, open educational resources, and innovative publishing models. Working closely with other academic librarians, they will support faculty members and graduate students with open scholarship services and resources for the purposes of teaching and research, and serve as the institutional representative for AtlanticOER. Work will align with MSVU’s equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility efforts and its commitment to decolonizing the academy.

Responsibilities include serving as the Scholarly Publishing Librarian and the liaison for the humanities departments. The successful candidate will manage digital dissertation & theses repository deposits, faculty repository deposits, and deliver one section of the online course Library Research (asynchronous delivery) during Summer I 2026 as part of their workload. The successful candidate will be a member of the library management and research help teams.

The following qualifications are required:  

● an ALA-accredited Master of Library Science (or equivalent);
● experience delivering reference services (preferably in an academic library environment); 
● excellent oral and written communication skills;
● strong technological and analytical skills; 
● knowledge of metadata standards, digital repositories & asset management platforms (e.g. DSpace);
● knowledge of open-source publishing software and services (e.g. OJS, Pressbooks).

Experience in the following areas will be considered an asset:  

● background in the disciplines of Cultural Studies, English, History, Philosophy, or Religious Studies; 
● credit or non-credit teaching or library instruction; and   
● knowledge of copyright and intellectual property.
