To ensure that we serve the needs of different groups in the library field, we will be creating a special interest group for library support staff and current master of library and information science students to gather and find community.
If you have interest in joining either of these groups or want to pave the path into getting them started, please reach out to us at vimloc@gmail.com
Student Interest Groups
Visible Minority Librarians of Canada Student Interest Group (ViMLoC SIG)
Calling all Library and Information Studies Students and Recent Graduates!
We are happy to share that we are establishing the Visible Minority Librarians of Canada Student Interest Group (ViMLoC SIG).
We hope to provide a safe space and supportive community for Indigenous and Black students, and students of colour in library and information studies. This will be the first group of its kind that gathers BIPOC LIS students from library schools across Canada, and we’re looking for students interested in helping us create systemic change within LIS.
By joining the ViMLoC Student Interest Group (SIG) you will have access to:
- A collaborative community of peers from across Canada
- Peer mentorship support
- Resources for BIPOC librarians (scholarships, job postings, funding opportunities, etc.)
- …and more as we grow and develop!
We hope that with the establishment of ViMLoC SIG, and with your membership, we can begin to develop a strong community of BIPOC library and information studies students, and affect significant change in the library landscape.
We strongly encourage new, continuing, and recently graduated LIS students to join us. If you are interested in being part of the group, or if you have any questions, please send an email to vimloc@gmail.com.
Please share this email widely among your networks, and with any BIPOC LIS student who may wish to find a welcoming community in the library field.
Latinx GLAM in Canada
About Us:
Latinx GLAM in Canada is an informal community of Latin American-identifying GLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and Museums) workers and students across Canada. We are committed to creating a supportive, collaborative, and empowering space to share experiences, seek advice, and work toward common goals. Rooted in mutual respect and solidarity, our group fosters dialogue, mentoring, and professional development that reflect our diverse identities and lived experiences in the GLAM sector.
Whether through informal drop-ins or more structured collaboration, we aim to build a sustainable and inclusive network that affirms our voices and strengthens our presence in the field. We welcome all individuals regardless of their career status, from students to retirees, to join. Please contact us at the following email address to join: latinx-glam@googlegroups.com.
Latinx GLAM in Canada is currently meeting remotely via Zoom once a month. New members are welcome to join meetings at their convenience. During meetings, we catch up, get to know each other, share ideas for collaborating as a group, and plan initiatives. If you cannot attend meetings, Latinx GLAM in Canada also communicates regularly via Google Groups.
