Indigenous Studies Librarian, three-year term appointment 0.6 FTE – University of Saskatchewan

Applications are invited from qualified individuals for a 0.6 FTE 3-year term librarian position with the University Library. We are seeking a dynamic, innovative, and flexible individual with the appropriate skills and qualifications to work collaboratively as part of our team. The appointee will serve as liaison to Indigenous Studies (and potentially other areas within the humanities and social sciences) and will contribute to library-wide projects and priorities. The focus of the position will be on instruction and research support to students and faculty in the assigned areas.

Reporting to the Dean through the Associate Dean, Client Services, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Providing high quality liaison services that support faculty teaching and research, and student learning and success including
    • Designing and delivering library and information literacy instruction and workshops, both in-person (when possible) and online, as well as creating effective instructional resources in a variety of formats 
    • Providing information services including research consultations to students, faculty, and researchers, as well as Research Help Desk support in the Murray Library
    • Developing and managing collections in the Humanities and / or Social Sciences
  • Developing relationships with stakeholder groups (i.e., with faculty, students, and researchers) to ensure that the library understands their needs, supports their priorities, and promotes library services/resources
  • Working as part of teams within the library (i.e., with learning specialists, librarians, and library assistants) with a particular focus on advancing learning and curriculum support within the College of Arts & Science.

Qualifications
An ALA-accredited Master of Library and Information Science degree or equivalent is required for this appointment. Professional librarian experience is preferred. 

We are seeking candidates who have: 

  • Knowledge of Indigenous worldviews, histories, governance structures, spiritualities, lands and cultures (particularly within the Canadian context), as well as decolonization / Indigenization-related issues
  • Education in Indigenous-related subject areas and / or work experience within an Indigenous organization 
  • A robust knowledge of Indigenous library resources
  • A proven track record in developing strong professional relationships with Indigenous peoples and communities
  • A demonstrated ability to teach effectively in both group and individual settings
  • An awareness of current trends in librarianship, including Indigenous Librarianship
  • A willingness to take initiative and be a self-starter
  • Flexibility, enthusiasm, and collegiality
  • The ability to develop and sustain effective and collaborative professional working relationships and partnerships
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including effective communication skills
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills 
  • Ability to work well both independently and in a collegial team environment
  • A commitment to developing professional knowledge and skills on a continuing basis
  • Awareness of the rapidly changing environment of scholarly communications

Familiarity with an Indigenous language commonly spoken in Saskatchewan would be considered an asset.

Knowledge of contemporary Indigenous Studies issues would be considered an asset.

Salary bands for this position for the 2020-2021 academic year are as follows: Assistant Librarian: $80,116 to $96,301; Associate Librarian: $96,301 to $115,723, prorated to 0.6 FTE. It is anticipated that this position will be filled at the Assistant level.
