Position Summary
The Ajax Public Library is currently recruiting one (1) candidate for the position of Adult Services Librarian (Full-Time—*Temporary*). Under the direct supervision of the Coordinator of Community Engagement, within a certified ISO environment, and in a manner that is consistent with Ajax Public Library’s overall visions and goals, the Adult Services Librarian provides leadership, develops and implements engaging high-quality adult and seniors’ programs, and maintains and nurtures partnerships with continuing education facilities, community organizations and agencies serving adults and seniors, within a proactive customer service environment. The Adult Services Librarian provides input to adult collections (existing/emerging) to the Coordinator of Collections and also assists with the evaluation of Library programs and special events.

Typical Duties & Responsibilities
1. Reporting to the Coordinator of Community Engagement, develops, delivers, promotes, facilitates and continuously evaluates innovative programs to build age-friendly library services that meet the needs of: adults and seniors at all life stages; caregivers; and, community organizations, including businesses and employment services. Programming will support adult/seniors’ life-long learning aspirations and participation in cultural activities.
2. With a community engagement focus conducts outreach to, and develops partnerships with town/municipal departments, community-based organizations, institutions (private/public sector) and community groups that serve adults and seniors, to promote the Library’s services, collections, specialized programs and resources.
3. Facilitates, monitors and oversees volunteer initiatives, such as the Visiting Library Services, the Stay Connected technology training program and Older Adult Advisory Committee (OAAC) activities; and, other volunteer groups to develop programs and services to increase adult/senior awareness of the Library, its resources and age-friendly initiatives in the community.
4. Provides feedback to the Collections Services team regarding collection development of formats and materials of interest to adults/seniors. Promotes the adult and senior collections to ensure the regular use of the material. Participates in special projects/new initiatives by curating content, digital resources and special collections.
5. Develops and maintains content for social media platforms.
6. Provides support to Community Engagement Associates and acts as a Library representative on community-based committees.
7. Prepares reports and statistics as required.
8. Maintains awareness of the public experience, offers excellent and proactive customer service, and builds community connections.
9. Other library related duties as assigned.

$34.54/hour (CUPE Grade 10)

Working Conditions
1. Works 70 hours per two-week period, which includes evening and weekend work.
2. Physical demands include moving book trucks and boxes of materials, bending and stretching.
Qualifications and Skills
1. A Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an accredited university or an approved ALA equivalent.
2. Minimum of one year’s related professional adult and senior services experience.
3. Proven in-depth knowledge of trends in the delivery of services to adults/seniors in order to develop relevant services.
4. Proven knowledge of, and experience with, emerging technology.
5. Demonstrated knowledge of community development practices and outcome measurements.
6. Proven ability to build and maintain sensitive and complex relationships with adults, seniors and community members.
7. Excellent leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to deal co-operatively and effectively with internal and external customers, volunteers, community organizations and other key stakeholders.
8. Ability to work effectively with customers of all ages and backgrounds; recognizing the needs of customers from a wide variety of cultural, economic, social and educational backgrounds.
9. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication, and conflict resolution skills.
10. Demonstrated ability to balance priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
11. Ability to travel, attend meetings and outreach events outside of the library facility, as needed.
